Amendable to Politics
NOT AMENABLE
Is nothing amenable about it.
I am not amenable toward it.
Compromise. Accommodate. Not a bit.
Once looted the wealth, say ‘can’t afford it’.
No goodwill on my part. There’s none on theirs.
Their game is to deceive; disguise the facts.
Then say, ‘settled. To change, simply impairs’.
All the while, use the State to guard their backs.
So, my feelings border on the hostile.
Good job, then, I’m not directly active.
Party I support as if in exile.
By ‘not knowing what to do’ distracted.
I doubt I will get the chance, I expect,
But if did, would express my disrespect.
A CRAZY WORLD
See a familiar face and say “hello”.
After said “how are you?”, and ‘how am I?’,
between the “have a nice day” as we go,
she says with a sort of frustrated sigh,
“the world is so crazy”. Sadly, the truth.
So many aspects could have had in mind.
Public money, politicians’ misuse.
Corruptly-run State, they’ve newly designed.
And then there is the disease still rampant.
Quieter now, but have had deadly waves.
Surges elsewhere will bring new variant.
Then, climate change, many lives will erase.
Still war build-ups, and injustices too.
A sane greeting in a world so askew.
THE CHARLATAN
Is not to be trusted, the charlatan.
Self-interest is behind the façade.
Certainly not a Good Samaritan.
For the wider good, has little regard.
But the bluff and bluster and bonhomie
can be effective winning position.
Behind the scenes, though, and subsequently,
will make differently-based decisions.
A rogue in reality. A cardsharp.
A quack-cure salesman. Phony messiah.
Friendly uncle. Your best wishes at heart.
For gains can get, a cheat and a liar.
Avoids scrutiny, focussed argument.
To power, and with it, a charlatan.
REFUGEES
Europe is an inhospitable place.
Refugees are treated as intruders.
To them, countries’ show their ugliest face.
The arrival of unwanted losers.
And many will have lost a great amount.
Their homes. Their security, as war raged.
The poverty of nothing, they’re about,
so moving brings the chance of being saved.
The journey precarious. Landing, too.
Makeshift camps of squalor in which must dwell.
In administration, chaos ensue
in processing their ‘stay’ claims. Given hell.
But even with how treated, they can cope.
The choice is ‘nothing where from’ or ‘here hope’.
REGULATION IN CAPITALISM
Regulation in Capitalism
is a token tool that’s ineffective.
‘A check on bad practice’, euphemism.
But, in significance, is deceptive.
Its’ administrators must know their place.
That is not to impede business practice.
And profits more important, in the face
of environment or health interest.
To consumers, the occasional sop.
But in general, or detail, there’s nothing
that puts the public first or, indeed, stop
the damage and hurt the corporates bring.
And, pathetic farce, self-regulation.
All, avoids laws to protect the nation.
‘WOKE’
The word ‘woke’ used as a term of abuse.
Indicates ‘political correctness’.
In the face of the facts, it’s an excuse.
It’s deflection into indirectness.
Criticism of ‘populist’ Farage,
I think the origin, describing him
as racist or xenophobic; proof large.
Migrants, asylum seekers, him hating.
His response, no response, but to call ‘woke’.
This successful tactic taken forward.
Conservatives, as denial tool, spoke.
Electorally it reaped a reward.
‘Identity’ rather than class or race.
‘White’s superior’ is woke’s ugly face.
TWO WAYS REVOLUTION
“Moderates Bomb Lisbon” ran the headline.
Actually they owed their allegiance
to fascist attitudes of a past time.
The ousting of them a great achievement.
Revolution, though, not liberating
always. Could be force reactionary.
Was what right-wing Tories incubating
until their coup became reality.
So, their branding others only fools fools.
“Terrorists”, “Anarchists”, just like they are,
but with a different, more noble cause,
Extinction Rebellion, Black Lives Matter.
A time of revolutionary change.
For ‘greed’, or ‘survival … justice’ arrange.
‘SPLASH THE CASH’ TORIES
‘Splash the Cash’ Tories for their own buddies.
To get themselves out of their ‘loose talk’ holes.
Promises broken, but with cash proceed.
Crony and political funding goals.
Are incompetent administrators.
Billions wasted unnecessarily.
Yet, think they are clever operators,
disguising continued austerity.
Aid cuts overseas. Welfare cuts at home.
And, record taxes on the working poor.
‘Solutions’ no more than blustery foam.
Still ‘give to the rich, and take from the poor’.
Social Care!, Climate Change!, unconvincing.
But with cash generate, distort spending.
STANDING FOR SOMETHING
“I stood for nothing”, Katy Perry sang
in “Roar”, “so I fell for everything”.
Aspect of ‘weakness’ came to understand.
Some purposeful intention meriting.
I think of so many voters, worldwide
and this country, seemingly quite shallow
regarding the factors how they decide.
Adults, but attitude almost callow.
Easily manipulated, it seems,
by looks, simple slogans and distortions
of little relevance to hopes and dreams.
Negativity, too, in large portion.
But standing for something. And for that, vote,
would be great if, somehow, songs could invoke.
LEVELLING UP
Desperate for substance to the slogan,
the Prime Minister and his acolytes
come up light on it again and again,
whilst claiming the little done, scales the heights.
Levelling-up, when in fact has been none.
None between the richest and the poorest.
The poor pay more, as rich richer become.
Higher prices and taxes, in excess.
The wealth gap between London and the North,
have an eye to bridge by making worse-off
ordinary Londoners, but then false,
levelling-up. Level-down, double cross.
And the health gap, not a levelling-up.
Longer, better lives, nowhere near enough.
THE POOR OF THIS WORLD
Indifferent to the poor of this world.
They do not count for most of the wealthy.
To relieve their poverty, not impelled.
An attitude that is far from healthy.
Colonise their lands. Steal their resources.
Stash away in banks, corrupt rulers funds.
Bring conflict, selling arms to war forces.
Starvation, school-less, few treatments, and slums.
Even in developed countries, welfare
for the poorest well below adequate.
Only means to alleviate despair,
what charities, voluntary groups, make.
The poor, cheap labour or nonentity,
who are ignored, conned, treated brutally.
DEMOCRACY IN THE BARDO
Soon, democracy be in the bardo.
Currently is positioned on thin ice.
Not be anywhere like it, we can go,
when need it. Told, instead, to pray to Christ.
Deserves to be blessed. Itself a blessing,
delivering much that good for people.
Injustice and unfairness, addressing.
Exposing to daylight the deceitful.
Better than authoritarian rule;
arbitrary dictators and tyrants;
the military despots who appal;
royalist and religious sycophants.
But moneyed privilege has landed blows.
Dragged democracy toward the bardo.
